Luca Patrone: "Get that mood!"

By Silvia Kabaivanova   Published: 01/03/2009

Luca Patrone was born in 1973 in Genova, Italy. After taking the degree in management engineering, he finished his study in Mexico city and then in Colombia. After coming back to Italy he began to work as a consultant. But his passion turned to be his work very soon and thus he started his photographer career. Now he has over 5 years of experience in commercial and fashion photography. He lives in Milan, one of the world Cities of fashion.

How did you find your interest in photography?
I always loved to draw strange pictures or make "3d art" with pc.
One day I decided to buy my first camera, and from that day I've finished using the pencil and the mouse for drawing.
After that I've discovered that the camera is just like the pencil..... the important stuff is what happens before the shooting. The "click" is the less important step of creating an image.

Is it difficult to become a professional photographer?
It depends. It is not difficult to learn to make "nice photos".
The difficult thing at the beginning is to make money from them.

What were the first fashion photos that you shot?
Photos of a girl crying in an old industry.

What influences your choice of the models?
Mood, ability to act. Of course also aesthetics, but I love when a beautiful model knows how to be an actress during the shooting

What are your professional rules when you photograph works of the fashion design and fashion shows ?
Mainly 2:
1) My mission is to understand the mood of the collection, and create and propose a campaign or catalogue in that mood.
2) KEEP IT SECRET! Fashion designers have a kind of religious attitude to the images of their creations.

Which are the most provocative photos that you have made?
Eheh, look the "lifestyle?" section of my website....

Have you photographed any celebrities ?
The last one was Kaka, the football player, last week, for a Brazilian client.

Have you made photos for magazine covers ?
Yes, for many Italian magazines and for Las Rosas, a magazine from Argentina.

Have you taken photos of Bulgarian models, celebrities or fashion events ?
A Bulgarian Model, Desislava.

What is your motto?
When working for a client: "Get that mood!"
When making my research: "Let's try something new"

What is your idea for having a good time?
Making photos ;)

How do you relax?
Thinking about what kind of photos I'm going to do...
