London Fashion Week gets love from Louboutin
For Spring/Summer 2016, Christian Louboutin collaborated with two London Fashion Week favourites, creating custom shoes for each occasion.
Things kicked off on Saturday, with East London darling Holly Fulton. Taking inspiration from the late British surrealist artist Eileen Agar, Fulton infused her collection with a psychedelic attitude and collage-like assemblance. A kaleidoscopic mix of graphic prints and crystal embellishments were met with cascading ruffles and Fulton’s signature embellishments. The bold Bella Tige wedge served as the perfect foil for the collection—merging the optimistic personality of prints and silhouettes with a modern shape that captured the off kilter style of Agar’s work. Key prints in the collection were wrapped around the body of the wedge, while the top of the shoe donned the collection’s harmonic colour palette - a leather band of navy blue, forest green, orange, lavender, and teal. The shoes were styled with opposing prints, further bolstering the collaged nature of the collection.
A day later in Kings Cross’ Cubit Square, print master and industry favourite Jonathan Saunders exhibited a collection that took us from Japan, to India, Africa and back. Kimono style jackets, obi belts and dressing gowns in an array of reworked textiles paired with nude and blush tone separates in solid and stripped combinations that dared to mix and match without ever feeling like a clash. Silhouettes that appeared simple were anything but, thanks to the collection’s signature bias cuts, which felt effortless through multilayered looks. For a collection this unique, four new sandal styles debuted in varying heel heights and mixed materials, including rich suedes in nude, blush and black, all juxtaposed with clear PVC to give the illusion of being barely there.
