Ferrets - the new fashion accessory

Recently the normal view was Paris Hilton or Britney spears walking with Chihuahua puppies, peeking out from their designer bags.

However, this “living fashion accessory” gave place to another hairy pet – the ferrets. Inspired by the famous owners of ferrets as Paris Hilton, Madonna and the wife of Jonathan Ross – Jane Goldman, ordinary Brit women also replaced their favourite Chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers with the cute creatures.

Pet shops in Britain reported boom in sales of ferrets. Over 60 percent of buyers are women, mainly aged between 35 and 44 years.

Most often the ferret lovers keep two of the pets, but one enthusiast kept 160 ferrets.

“Ferrets have had bad press over the years, but they are clean, intelligent and attractive. A ferret is an excellent companion as they adapt to different lifestyles”, explains the expert Ian Kearns.

Kearns said that ferrets also sleep up to 20 hours a day and can go long periods without food. This makes them more suitable and attractive pets than cats or dogs for busy owners.
