The creative world of Spanish fashion gathers at the new edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, between 14th and 19th September. For six days this new edition of the biggest Spanish design showcase in the world, organised by IFEMA, will present proposals from the biggest fashion creative names in our country, including new talents, confirming the huge wealth and creative diversity that exists today.
The calendar parades will take place between the 15th and the 19th in Hall 14.1 of IFEMA-Feria de Madrid, and as a novelty some days are complemented with presentations and parades in other places of Madrid, by direct invitation from the designers. One day before, on the 14th, fashion shows and presentations will take place outside IFEMA, also by direct invitation from the designers. On this day, Roberto Verino will repeat his see now, buy now fashion show concept, this time at the Galeria de Cristal at the Palacio de Cibeles, where the ManeMane fashion show will also take place. Furthermore, Palomo Spain, one of Spanish fashion’s new big talents, who is included in the calendar of this edition’s general programme, will present his collection at the Wellington Hotel in the afternoon of the 14th September.
For its part, in this edition the brand Desigual will change the format of its participation on the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid catwalk, converting it into a platform which allows it to develop alternative ways to present its collections while responding to the challenges and demands of a changing environment. Therefore, on 14 September, on the opening day, Desigual will invite a group of new Spanish designers to show their creations combined with the items from the brand's 2017 Autumn/Winter collection, in an exercise of inexhaustible imagination. The venue will be open to the public, morning to afternoon, in the concept store El Paracaidista in Calle de la Palma, 10.
The day will finish off with a series of talks and conferences in the same space in which young participating creators will intervene, members of Desigual staff, as well as other important names from the fashion industry in our country who will share knowledge, concerns and answers in a clear exercise in support of talent, entrepreneurship and creativity. A day which aspires to become a benchmark in fashion engagements in Madrid.
As well as Palomo Spain, the designers Garcia Madrid, Isabel Nunez, Maria Cle, Pepa Salazar and Chromosome Residence will also join the general programme. The last five will also have presentations at different locations in Madrid. Altogether, the event will host fashion shows from 47 creators and brands.
Ecoembes, along with the winners of the El Laboratorio competition, which promotes sustainable fashion, together with Maria Cle Leal, winner of the Fashion category, and Etxaburu, in the Accessories category, will present their capsule collections made with fabrics made from recycled plastic packaging. What's more, students from the Istituto Europeo di Design, the Centro Superior de Diseno de Madrid and IADE will present their own creations, which have emerged from a research and experimentation project involving these kinds of fabrics.
These names, together with those of the creators participating in other editions will allow Spanish fashion to show off the diversity of the creative discourses and codes it offers today, with the same status as other international platforms and will contribute to consolidate Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid as one of the major events in the fashion world. Furthermore, this new Mercedes-Benz-Fashion Week edition will again evidence the critical support that this catwalk, organised by IFEMA, has been offering for over thirty years to Spanish fashion, progressively including the most important national designers of the day in its programme. Since its inception in February 1985, the MBFW Madrid fashion show has hosted fashion on the catwalk for more than 300 Spanish designers.
Furthermore, MBFW Madrid will have an interesting off programme with fashion events at various locations in Madrid not included in the main programme. On 12 and 13 September, before the start of the official programme, there will be presentations from Duarte Madrid, Miguel Marinero, Pilar Dalbat and Moises Nieto. The JCPajares fashion show will take place on 16 September, and presentations by Euphemio Fernandez and The Stoat will take place on 21 September.
