Children`s Spring-Summer 2011 Collection of Benetton - A Day On The Farm
Exploring a world that some children, especially city kids, rarely have a chance to see. The countryside – with its colours, smells and flavours – can be a magnificent adventure when seen through the eyes of a child. Let’s imagine a band of “little terrors” getting to know barns, wheelbarrows, cows, hens and goats. Our little explorers wear clothes from a varied wardrobe as they set out for a very special day.
GIRL
The farm girl chooses a romantic/sporty look. Flouncy cotton check blouses easily team with denim miniskirts and jackets. Dresses are cotton, either poplin or jersey; they have a simple, often A-line shape, sometimes with shoulder straps or little puff sleeves. When she doesn’t have ponies or geese to look after and it’s time to play, she wears printed, shaded T-shirts matched with tartan or chenille jersey shorts. Blouses with tiny floral prints give a true country feel. And what if it suddenly rains? She opens her back-pack and pulls out a crushed-effect gingham trench coat. This fun-packed farm takes on shades of magenta, lime, cornflower blue and mauve, together with ever-fashionable blue and white.
BOY
It’s time for some serious exploring, so there’ll be a lot of climbing, jumping and running. There’s a wide range of clothing for each of these activities. The key articles are colourful T-shirts with maxi script motifs; ripped, distressed jeans; and yarn-dyed check shirts. The “farmyard adventurer” look rounds off with garment-washed embroidered hoodies, camo-print (to hide the dirty marks!) combat pants and jackets, with jersey trousers offering total freedom of movement and cotton piqué polo shirts in shaded colours with a faded effect. Bon-ton takes over when it’s time to go back to town: striped tops and canvas trousers and jacket with clean, simple lines. His colour palette, too, is bright: turquoise, yellow, magenta and coral softened by blue and white.
