VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies: European Industry meeting with election of new board of directors
This year's VDMA TFL industry meeting took place on 14 and 15 November in Berlin. For many years, the trade association has been committed to Europeanisation and this year, too, further European members have joined the ranks. "Only together as a European industry can we form an antithesis to the current global framework conditions and remain competitive," said Elgar Straub, Managing Director of the TFL trade association. The consequences of the trade dispute between the USA and China and the unclear Brexit situation are causing great uncertainty and unrest in the markets. The industry is also feeling this, and strong European cohesion is the necessary response to the current political and economic situation.
The industry looks forward to Texprocess, the leading trade fair for processing textile and flexible materials, taking place in Frankfurt from 14 to 17 May 2019. "Sales in the entire German Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies sector rose by 5.7 percent in real terms yearon-year in the months from January to October 2018," explained Elgar Straub, Managing Director of VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies, at Texprocess's international press conference in Frankfurt.
"Sales in the Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies sector rose by 11.4 percent in real terms in the months from January to August 2018 compared with the previous year," explained Elgar Straub, Managing Director of VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies, at the industry meeting and general meeting of the trade association in Munich. Similarly, exports by the sector, which brings together manufacturers of sewing and garment technology, shoe and leather technology as well as laundry and dry-cleaning technology, increased by 6.2 percent in 2017 from 1.049 billion euros (2016) to 1.114 billion euros (2017). "Although times are still economically successful, many external components, such as Brexit or the trade policy of the US President, are nevertheless bringing considerable unrest to the markets," said G?nter Veit, Chairman of the VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies.
